Walt Disney's Original Plan for EPCOT

Hey everybody! Lyanne here!

I had been meaning to watch this film for a long time. I was really curious to see Walt Disney's plan for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow but it wasn't until today that I finally looked for it.
So here it is in case somebody else hasn't watched it or if you just want to see it again! Enjoy!

Ridethrough: Splash Mountain

This is tied for my favorite attraction in all of WDW (and rightfully won John's Best Attraction contest over at The Purple Folder.) The excellent, detail-oriented storytelling combined with a thrilling flume ride is definitely a Disney trademark. I even took some screenshots from this HD video to illustrate why it's one of my favorites:

View as you begin the ride.

View just before the drop. Gorgeous!

Hidden Mickey in the finale showboat scene - he's in the
lower-right hand corner, just above the YouTube logo.

Enjoy!

Disney's Imagineers

Hey everyone! It's Molly again!

Though I have my purple folder, I'm still waiting for August to start my program. In the meantime, I have still been watching Disney YouTube videos and have recently found a video on Disney's Imagineers. This video was a travel channel special that take you behind some of the Walt Disney Company's greatest achievements including Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain, and the Tower of Terror.

Candlelight Processional and Osborne Lights

It's Molly again. To finish my holiday theme, here are videos of Epcot's Candlelight Processional and Hollywood Studio's Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

The Candlelight Processional is the story of Christmas told in story and songs. The Processional is made up of a mass choir, joined by a 50-piece live orchestra and a celebrity narrator.

As Florida snow falls, more than 10 miles of lights "dance" to music every 15 minutes.

Walt Disney World: Past, Present and Future

Hello everyone! Jennifer here from Becoming Part of That World. I thought I'd jump on the band wagon and post a little something for everyone to watch while we comtinue to wait for our purple folders/emails! What I've decided to post is a special to commemorate WDW's 20th anniversary hosted by John Lithgow that was on the disney channel in the early 90's. So this is before the Animal Kingdom or Sunset Boulevard with ToT and Rock n' Roller Coaster were created. Though it is a bit outdated, it is fun to see some of the early visions of rides and additions we love today. Enjoy!

First post by Kristin!

You will probably see a bunch of links/videos from me relating to old Epcot. I love Epcot's history and the attractions that used to be there -- especially the music.

The first link I'll post is a really cool website called "Walt Dated World."
Here you can read old attraction scripts, lyrics and see old pictures. It is really neat if you are nostalgic, like myself!

The second website I want to share has aerial images of the parks and certain attractions. It's not a huge time waster, but it's kind of neat! You can find that here.

This next website is full of Disney fonts, even down to the specific attraction. I'm not sure what you could use these for, but I thought they were cool--especially the Tiki room one! Click here for the fonts.

Lastly (I know, I have made this long!!), I figured I would post links to three old family sitcom episodes that took place in Disney. Yes, there a few more, but I don't have the links handy and I want to save more for a future post!

Hello, Laura here!
So I'm still playing the waiting game, waiting for my loverly purple email. And while I'm waiting, I figured I might as well add some new videos for you all. The theme? Live stage shows at Disney!

Up first: Beauty and the Beast from DHS.

NEXT: Festival of the Lion King at DAK.

Have fun watching! And hopefully I will have something purple in my email tomorrow!

Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party

It's Molly again. Keeping with my theme of Christmas at Disney World, MVMCP is a special event where the Magic Kingdom is transformed into a Holiday Partyland with special decorations and holiday shows. Cast members get discounted tickets to this holiday party. Here are a few videos of Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party.

Past attractions at EPCOT - Part 2

Lyanne here again!! :) (I give up on the shameless blog promotion! but do look for it if you want! lol)

Hey everybody! Just posting again so I can continue sharing the videos for the past attractions at EPCOT.

Up next is World of Motion. This ride was situated where we can now find Test Track. It was an opening day attraction and it closed on January 2, 1996.

What ever happened to the Wonders of Life pavilion? Anybody know? I don't remember even catching a glimpse of the pavilion last July. :/

Anyway, this pavilion was host to an attraction called Body Wars (very similar in concept to Star Tours). This ride opened October 19, 1989 and it has been closed since January 1st, 2007, along with the rest of the pavilion which is now apparently only used for special events like the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival and the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival. If anybody knows anything else about the pavilion let me know. :)

Before Honey, I shrunk the Audience, the 3D show featured at the Imagination Pavilion was Captain EO. Staring Michael Jackson and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, this 3D film opened on September 12, 1986 and closed July 6, 1994.

Captain EO will be returning to the Disneyland park in California.

That's all for now! Have a great day everybody! :)

MICKEY'S NOT SO SCARY HALLOWEEN PARTY

Hey everybody! It's me, Emily! From the Magic Magic Mouseketeer blog. I can't believe they're already sending out purple e-mails! It's so exciting! Congrats to everyone so far! And I've got my fingers crossed for the rest of us this week!

One thing I'm looking forward to is Halloween at Disney World. I've never been to either resort outside of summer vacation -- so, I'm really excited for all of the holidays we'll be experiencing with Disney during out program. Here are a couple videos from the Halloween celebrations at Disney World!

Augh! That looks like so much fun! I'm already thinking about what to do for costumes! What about you?

Disney's Holiday Magic With Samantha Brown

Hell0 Everyone! It's Molly again from Working From The Mouse.

Today, I was watching The Travel Channel when Samantha Brown's Disney Holiday Magic came on TV. Samantha takes you on a tour of Walt Disney World and Disneyland during the holidays.

Past attractions at EPCOT - Part 1

Lyanne (Por favor manténgase alejado de las puertas)

Like Jenn's previous post, I love to watch attractions videos but it wasn't until a couple of days a go that I realized that instead of watching all the videos of rides I had already been on (and hopefully will be on again ;) ) I wanted to watch videos of previous attractions that I hadn't had the chance to see or attractions that I saw as a little kid but only have vague memories of.

I figured there are too many past attractions in of all the parks so I'm just gonna share a few from EPCOT.

First up is Kitchen Kabaret, this 13 minute audio-animatronic show closed January 3,1994 after 12 years. This show was present since EPCOT's opening day.

Kitchen Kabaret was later replaced by Food Rocks. The show opened on March 26, 1994 and closed January 3, 2004 to make way for Soarin'.

Now we move from the Land pavillion to another part of Future World, where now Mission Space stands. There stood Horizons. This attraction opened on October 1st, 1983 and closed on January 9, 1999.

I'm gonna leave it at that for now. There's still a lot more past attractions at EPCOT and previous versions of attractions still in existence (and that's just in EPCOT!). I hope you enjoyed the videos. Have a great day everybody!

Let's get ready for some Disney History!

Hey guys and gals! Lauren here!(vlog and blog here, respectively!)

So, I was checking out my youtube and saw a link for these series of videos, which I've seen before, and knew it was be a really cool thing to post.

These videos are basically videos found from the disney vault. When Walt was building Disneyland, he had the whole construction filmed. It was rotting away for years until a few employees came across it.

Here's the synopsis:
Archival footage of the park's birth. Using time-lapse and traditional eye-in-the-sky photography, this is a dazzling piece of history, presenting how the fearless construction crews had Disneyland up and running in just under a year. Again: just under a year. commentary by Tony Baxter, Ed Hobleman, and Walter Magnuson, who discuss the frantic construction of the park. Courtesy of Walt's persnickety insistence to document everything.

Here they are, in parts 1-5

So yeah, if you've got some time on your hands, these are AMAZING videos. Also, check out this persons youtube channel, theeditor84 for some GREAT disney videos!

Have a magical evening! :)

First 3 Mickey Mouse cartoons

Lyanne again here!! Hello everybody!

Today I wish to share the first 3 Mickey Mouse cartoons ever made in order in which they were produced. If you've already seen them, I'm sure you'll agree they are lots of fun to watch! Enjoy!

P.S: Contrary to what many people believe, Steamboat Willie is not Mickey's first cartoon short (it was Plane Crazy) but it was the first short to find a distributor so that explains why many people think so.

CP Vlog Hall o' Fame!

Abby again, with the as-promised vlog post! This is by no means a comprehensive list of past/Spring CP Vloggers. They're just ones I happen to particularly enjoy.

First of all, there's John Henselmeier. His vlogs are so hilarious I can't possibly pick a single favorite one. Just watch them all. You won't regret it AND it will definitely help pass the time between now and getting your purple email/folder because he has like 40 of them.

This one is great though because it's about something we are all too familiar with....

Ryan O is another hilarious vlogger who's on his program RIGHT NOW doing Main Entrance Ops at the Magic Kingdom. I love this vlog just because it has "Wishes" in it. But he's awesome and willing to do anything... like talk in a pseudo-Australian accent for an entire vlog set in Animal Kingdom...

Finally, I will leave you with Will, also currently on Spring 2010... I believe in merchandise? Here's a great vlog featuring Ryan O about when he auditioned for Character Performer:

And of course you should check out my vlog ;) and the WDWCP Fall 2010 channel!!

Old School WDW commericals

Hey everyone! Laura here. I have my blog at lauraswdwcpfa2010blog.blogspot.com. My addition to our loverly wait blog is to bring you the old school Disney World commercials that we all grew up watching and loved. Enjoy!

And this one's not WDW, but DCL. but I love it anyway... :)

And because the Superbowl is next week, I figured I should add one of the "I'm Going to Disney World" ones...

Disneyland Goes to the New York World's Fair (1964)

Hey everybody!
My name is Emily, I blog and vlog over at the Magic Magic Mouseketeer! I love the Wonderful World of Color and all that old Disney TV stuff -- so I was really excited to find this great special to share with you... Disneyland Goes to the New York World's Fair!

In it, Walt hosts a great workshop tour. You get to see imagineers working on animatronics at all stages of completion and tour some of the finished attractions too! Including... Magic Skyway/Disnoaurs & Cavemen, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln, Carrousel of Progress, plenty of Small World, and even some fireworks!

The end! I hope you enjoyed it! ♥ Emily

Boy Meets World and Full House

Hello everyone! The name is Sara (shameless blog promotion!) One of my favorite things to watch when I was younger were all the "Going to Disney" specials ABC's TV shows used to do. Could you imagine them doing that now? "What are you going to do now that you're off the island, Hurley?" "I'm going to Disney World!" But I digress it's always fun to walk down memory lane and watch these episodes. Here are two of my favorite shows growing up having fun with the mouse.

BOY MEETS WORLD:

Unwrapped: Walt Disney World

Hey, Ann here. I don't have a blog or a vlog (yet, lol). I always tell myself I'll start a blog but it never happens. Anywho, thought I'd still like to share something that I was a while ago. I thought since a whole bunch of us will end up in food areas, thought i'd share this special of Unwrapped.

Hiya, Folks!

Hey guys! Abby here - maybe you've seen my blog (Abby in Wonderland) or my youtube channel. (If not, it's okay, I promise.) I thought, to start off, I'd just share a hodgepodge of my favorite videos with you.

ONE: Disney Parks on YouTube - "Inside Walt Disney Imagineering"
My ultimate goal in working for Disney is to become an Imagineer, a la Tony Baxter (who is featured in this video). Have a taste...

TWO: "At the Happiest Place on Earth" : A Walt Disney World Montage

THREE: OH HEYYYY, DREAM JOB
Ariel is fantastic.

Next I plan on posting a series of particularly good videos from my favorite Disney Vloggers, so stay tuned for that! :) And I'll periodically post more favorites hodgepodges too.

Disney Sing Along Songs

Hey everyone! It's Molly from Working For The Mouse.

Does anyone remember the Disney Sing Along Songs video series? I used to watch them when I was a kid. Mr. Owl is your host as lyrics of your favorite Disney songs are displayed at the bottom. The series consists of five or six different videos. One of them was called Disney Sing Along Songs - Disneyland Friends. Sing along to the happiest songs on earth at the happiest place on earth -- Disneyland.

Disney on Broadway

Hello everybody! It's Lyanne(from the blog Por favor manténgase alejado de las puertas )

For this post I wanted to steer away a little from Disney parks and post videos of Disney musicals on Broadway. If you're like me, you haven't been able to see any of these musicals (or any Broadway musical for that matter) but really really wish to do so. This is why I LOVE to watch the DisneyOnBroadway channel on youtube.
With that said, I leave with one video (might be a trailer, sneak peak or even an entire song) of each Disney Broadway musical in order of the year they opened at Broadway. There are lots more videos on the youtube channel so feel free to watch those as well if you haven't yet. Enjoy!

Beauty and the Beast (1994)

The Lion King (1997)

Aida (2000)

Tarzan (May 2006)

Waiting and Disney Cruise Line

Travis (Travis' WDWCP Fall 2010 Blog):

Hey all. This is Travis. I'm currently waiting with the rest of you for hopefully my purple folder. I was told by my interviewer on Tuesday that I would find out a decision in 3-4 weeks. Hopefully I find something out around that time. Anyway, I want to introduce you all to my first vlog I made last week. It is a simple introduction of myself and the roles I am interesting in doing for the WDWCP Fall 2010:

I am excited not only because I'm waiting for the decision, but also because I'm going to Disney this weekend, but it's not Walt Disney World. I am sailing away on the Disney Wonder (part of Disney Cruise Line) for a 4-night cruise to the Bahamas and Castaway Cay. It is my 4th cruise with Disney Cruise Line and the first time I will be cruising as an adult. I can't wait to get on the ship. I will be sailing from January 31st through February 4th. During this time, I will not be on the Facebook group or the chat room because internet rates on the ship are expensive and I'm on vacation. ;) However, I do plan on taking my video camera making a vlog when I get back to show you what the ship looks like. :)

To stay on the Disney Cruise Line theme, I'm going to leave you all with a video of DCL's newest ship coming in 2011, the Disney Dream. It will have a water coaster attached to it called the AquaDuck. Check out the video below:

Good luck to everyone interviewing while I'm on the ship. I hope we all get purple folders in the future. Have a magical day! :)

You'll feel like you're there...

Hey guys! This is Jenn (check out my blog) and I have some great tips for easing the pain of the purple folder wait.

Whenever I have a WDW vacation planned, I watch videos of the attractions to pass the time. I'm doing it now as I wait for that special folder, and I thought it may help you, too!

Plus, you will feel like you're right there in the middle of the magic. :)

First, I found this amazing video of Splash Mountain in HD!

Then, Abby showed me a video of this great skipper on The World Famous Jungle Cruise!

Here's a pretty good (but old) video of everyone's favorite The Great Movie Ride.

Last but certainly not least, Pirates of the Caribbean! Can't you just smell that Disney water boat ride...smell?

I hope you enjoyed these, and I encourage you to hop over to youtube and watch some of your favorite rides! :)

Cast Member Stories & Travel Channel

John (The Purple Folder):

Some great videos today. The first is from the Christmas Parade during the Year of a Million Dreams about Cast Members making Dreams come true. The second is a great travel channel documentary about the four parks. And don't forget, if you want to contribute videos to the blog, just message me on Facebook and I'll send you the log in information. ENJOY:

Stop and Stare!

John (The Purple Folder):

A few acoustic covers of Disney songs:

Have a Magical Day!!!

To All Who Come to This Happy Place....Welcome!

Welcome to the official "Purple Folder: Wait Watcher" blog.

Okay, so here's the deal. We are at the beginning of the longest 2-6 weeks ever. During this time, you will check your email more times then you ever dreamed. You will walk to your mail box three times a day just in case the mailman is taking a page out of Santa Clause's book by delivering mail at 1 in the morning. You will be sitting in your classes hearing "Math, Math, Math" but when you look at the notes you took, all you see is "Disney, Disney, Disney." That is where this blog comes in.

If this little experiment works, those of you participating will be able to assist those who are waiting (and yourselves) by taking your minds off of checking to to see if there is any new news. How this works is:

This will sort of be "College Program TV." On this blog you will be able to watch videos pertaining to Disney World, Disnelyand, and the Disney College Program. And best of all, I want everybody to contribute to it. You can add your favorite Disney Youtube videos or your vlogs or whatever. All you have to do "create a new post", put your first name (if you have a blog include a link to your blog so other people can see your main page), and the videos. This isn't meant to replace your blogs but rather to be an extension that connects all the blogs out there.

If this works then great. If it doesn't oh well. If you want to be a video contributor to the blog, just send me a message on facebook and I'll send you the username and password. If I'm missed anything, just pm your questions.

Have a Magical Day!!!!
